Roasts For our Veterans on VE Day at Hog Roast Coningsby

Hog Roast ConingsbyThere is a lot in our job that we feel privileged to be able to do here at Hog Roast Coningsby. Even just being a part of your weddings each week is a massive honour, or being chosen by your business to bring our quality catering for your staff or clients. But there are few honours that get much higher than being chosen to support our WWII veterans on the 80th celebration of VE Day this year.

Here in Coningsby there is a vast military history that just about everyone here will be aware of. We have the RAF Coningsby base not too far from town with the historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight established there, too. During the war, Coningsby was also home to the 617 Squadron, otherwise known as The Dambusters – renowned for their daring flight over Germany later memorialised in the 1955 film of the same name.

Hog Roast ConingsbyBecause of this important heritage, a VE Day celebration was held in The Petwood Hotel where the Dambusters were once housed. Hog Roast TOWN had the honour of being invited along to cater for the event which was due to be attended by three WWII veterans. Our Hog Roast Coningsby catering manager Rob is a veteran himself, so the honour was all the more significant for our team, too. We were all to happy to take up the job and cook for those that deserve it most in this world, along with everyone else that came along to celebrate the moment and reflect on those lost to the past.

Hog Roast ConingsbyWith around 115 guests in attendance we had our hog roast on hand to make sure everyone would be well fed. As a vegetarian option we had our juicy grilled veg and halloumi skewers or our BBQ pulled jackfruit which brilliantly emulates our pork roast to almost the exact same tastes and textures.

It was a wonderful event to be a part of and we could not be any more honoured to even have been considered for such a monumental responsibility. Cooking for our veterans is not something we at Hog Roast Coningsby will ever forget, so we would like to thank the organisers again for selecting our dining for this high honour.
